Aliza's Memorial Fund

Hi everyone, we are a group of family, friends and colleagues who have come together to support the Husaini family.

At the start of 2022, Aliza was diagnosed with a rare genetic leukodystrophy, which impacted her ability to feed, play and interact. Despite this, she had amazing support from her family, friends, therapists, and her palliative care team to where she had some amazing moments where she would smile, giggle, and laugh so hard that she would stop breathing for a few seconds. While they all suffered over the past year, they will remember the happy times that they had together, including her first birthday, "Aliza in One-derland". On December 30th, Aliza peacefully passed away and as her parents eloquently put it, “she’s running around the clouds, smiling and giggling”.

Aliza loved sounds. She loved listening to the buzzing of bees, the 'meh-ing' of a lamb, the clapping of hands, her Nana's (Grandfather) whistle, her Nani's (Grandmother) singing, and her Amma's (Mother) obnoxious loud voice. She loved being thrown up in the air by her Dad and having air blown on her neck, whilst making a farting sound! Aliza enjoyed being outdoors and listening to people's conversations, she would often fall asleep whilst listening to her Amma's calls. Aliza's Daadi (Grandmother) would cherish taking her time to sit and feed her, and together with Dada (Grandfather) would drive 9 hours to come and spend time with her. Bath time was her favorite hour, especially when we did 'splash splash' with her feet. Her favorite foods were avocados, pears, zucchini, carrots, Grandma's Kichdi (lentil and rice with ghee) and her Daddy's white chocolate chip and cranberry cookies.

The family appreciates the outpouring of support this past year as they have navigated this journey. In an attempt to support the therapies and programs that have greatly benefited Aliza through this difficult time, we would like to raise funds for other children to be able to take advantage of these great programs that truly impacted Aliza's well-being. We chose $4,200 as our goal as it is the sum of her birthday digits 10/11/21.

Aliza touched so many lives in various ways. We would love to give Aliza a deserving send-off and support the BJC Lumina Program that has left the family with a long-lasting memory of her recorded heartbeat, her footprints and a photo book that will be cherished forever.

You all have been such wonderful human beings to Aliza, Mustafa and Fawzia this past year. The family deeply appreciates the compassion, love and support that everyone has shown them.

Sincerely,
Mustafa's siblings, Fawzia's siblings and cousins, Christina, Namrata, Prashanth, Tara, Lauren, Kim, Lizzy and Madeleine
