I was recently diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer that has spread into my lymph nodes. I'm stepping onto a path that's scary and expensive. I know I won't get through this journey on my own, and the majority of my support is 1000 miles away. So, I'm asking for help.
I will start chemo and antibody treatment next week for 18 weeks. During this stage I'll need cooling items like freeze gloves, cold cap, cool touch clothing, sheets, and pillows, and special foods that help with side effects.
After initial treatment, I will have surgery to remove my breasts and lymph nodes. This is when I will need things like a mastectomy pillow, special clothing with pockets for drain tubes, and a slew of other unmentionables.
I will also start radiation and endocrine therapy after the surgery. This is when I'll need a different assortment of special foods, and special skin and oral care items.
I will also need a second surgery in the near future, though I don't know when yet.
My closest friend here in Florida has been helping me with transportation to/from appointments. She is a great cheerleader, and a mighty prayer warrior.
My best friend in New Jersey already visited twice to help me through the first chaotic and stressful weeks. She was formerly in medical care for 15 yrs. She is organizing appropriate supplies, and will be coming down to take care of me as often as she can.
My father from Virginia also came to visit and is helping immensely. He will come down every so often as well.
My mom and dad in NJ will be down for at least one of my chemo treatments, hopefully more.
What I'd love most is prayers - for my family and friends not to stress too much, for them to be able to visit during treatments, for my medical team to kick butt, and for me to find peace in the storm.
The reality is I also need supplies, and my family and friends to be able to come to care for me. That's where you come in.
Your loving contribution will help pay for things like:
Chemo supplies
Instacart shopping
Meals and meal delivery
Special clothing items
Special hygiene items
Co-pays
Medical expenses
Transportation for caregivers
Devices not totally covered by insurance
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being generous with your love and kindness. I'm blessed to have people like you coming alongside me on this journey through cancer. When we are helpless to change a difficult situation, all we can do is love and support one another through it.
Together with God, cancer doesn't stand a chance!
May God bless you richly,
Jen
