Please help Support Baby Forrest fight against Spina Bifida

At 20 weeks gestation, during a routine anatomy scan, Bailey and Tori received the disheartening news that their baby boy, Forrest, was diagnosed with severe ventriculomegaly, a condition where the ventricles in his brain were significantly enlarged due to fluid buildup. Further evaluation by a specialist in Little Rock revealed the additional challenge of spina bifida, a neural tube defect affecting the proper closure of the spine, nerves, and back. The exact cause of this defect remains elusive.

Faced with this daunting reality, Bailey and Tori were swiftly referred to Memorial Hermann Hospital at the University of Texas in Houston for consultation with surgeons regarding the possibility of fetoscopic surgery, which held promise for Forrest's future. Following thorough assessments, they received the hopeful news that Forrest qualified for the procedure.

On April 9th, 2024, at 26 weeks gestation, Tori and baby Forrest underwent the intricate surgery to repair the extensive neural tube defect, which spanned over seven levels of his vertebrae. The procedure, involving the insertion of three ports into Tori's uterus, was successful but necessitated the use of two umbilical patches to preserve nerve function, requiring them to relocate to Houston at 32 weeks gestation in preparation for Forrest's birth.

After birth, Forrest will require additional interventions, such as a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VP shunt) or an endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV), to alleviate fluid buildup in his brain and mitigate the risk of hydrocephalus, a condition characterized by brain swelling. Forrest's journey will continue in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) until his head and back stabilize, meaning the family anticipates residing in Houston for a duration of three to six months, depending on the healing process.

During this challenging time, we humbly appeal to your generosity and compassion to support Bailey, Tori, and baby Forrest by alleviating some of the financial burdens they face. Your donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in helping this family navigate through their journey with hope and resilience.
