UPDATE from Gary:

Today, on March 27th at about 4:30 PM PST, my mother, the indomitable, incomparable, and extraordinary Pearl Malkin, after waiting in the in-between state of semi-consciousness for her other two sons as they made their immediate drive from Tucson and Orange County, spent a final hour with them, hand in hand - as they assured her it was fine to let go- and passed peacefully to eternity.

I had said my goodbyes to her an hour or so before, as I had to find a place to store her mattress after just getting her hospital bed set up!

Last night she was semi-conscious, and a spontaneous gathering with me, Rhonda Karsch, Jeanne Krafft, Lynnea Brinkerhoff, Jacqueline Jacqueline Susanna Chan, Trudie London, Laura Reoche and my best male friend Robert Adamich DC all surrounded her with love as she stared out to the far away distance saying “Wow!, Wow, -Wow!” as if seeing something extraordinary and magnificent to behold. Undoubtedly, given the amount of people this huge-hearted soul touched in her 99 + years, I’m sure she was staring right into the eyes of the Divine.

There is no way to say in words what a hole will be left in our lives from her absence.

Mom- thank you for always being a force for LOVE! My favorite phrase of hers was “If it isn’t breathing, it’s not important.”

Thank you Mom for giving my your huge heart and my first breath. ❤️

Greetings friends. It is with a heavy, but open heart I wanted to share this update from Gary Malkin about his mom's turn in health. He desperately needs our thoughts and prayers during this time. ♥️ Here is what Gary says in his own words:

"My momma started her dying process in earnest. Please hold space for her (Pearl Malkin) and us as we all enter the final stages of this phase of her soul’s journey. Deep gratitude for the extraordinary community of family and friends who are holding her and us as we enter this sacred transition that we’ve been aware would be imminent but now seems to be upon us. Mercy, Peace, blessings."

Beyond our prayers, the Malkin family will be facing the financial burden of a memorial service very soon. Gary said that they've been making preliminary plans for the funeral service and the lowest cost they are finding is going to be close to $20,000!!! Facing the imminent loss of a loved one is difficult enough without having to be burdened by a mountain of monetary obligation on top of it all.

Gary has done so much service for so many, I felt compelled to take the charge in creating this GoFundMe to help him and his family during this difficult time of transition. I ask for each of us to pull together and, big or small, give of our hearts to help this family in need.

Pearl has lived a long and full life. She just recently celebrated her 99th birthday. She survived raising a family which can be no small feat! Beyond that, seven years ago, she wrote a book (with the help of her son Steve Malkin) called, "A Jewish Mother's Guide To Professional Worry: Worry Yourself To Good Health" (https://www.amazon.com/Jewish-Mothers-Guide-Professional-Worry/dp/0978760808) Ten years ago Pearl was even featured on CCN Business article entitled, "89-year-old grandma hits Kickstarter goal" and was dubbed the "Kickstarter grandma" (https://money.cnn.com/2013/03/15/smallbusiness/grandma-kickstarter-startup/index.html).

These are only a couple of the many things that exemplify the spirit and spunk that Pearl Malkin lived her life each day. I never got the honor to meet Pearl directly, but have seen her love and spirit made manifest in my dear friend Gary. May we all find our years to be so full of life and love when our time comes.
