- I'm Pearl Dutchess, 84, and my husband of 41 years is Walter Chris Taylor. Our love and journey have been a difficult one. I'm 18 years older, and even though he's Black, race has never played a part in our marriage.
Please read our story with an open mind and heart.
I have to be honest. I was once married to a good man who now has passed away and we had four great sons. Some marriages are not meant to last a lifetime, and some people can relate to that.
I met my present husband Chris who was once an inmate who had served 44 years until his release on June 2nd, 2022. This is our story.
Out of love I followed and visited my husband in over 20 different prisons. I traveled through some of the coldest winter storms and some of the hottest summers up to 6 to 12 hours, coming and going just to visit with him. I traveled many times after working a 3-11 shift as a CNA in a nursing home. It wasn't easy and I know for a fact it was God who guided me there and back home.
Why are asking for your help? For 38 years I lived in a prison visiting room as we shared our dreams. We would love to have our own home and even though what we're asking for would be just enough to make a down payment, still we would have the money to do so when that time comes about.
Never again do we want to hear prison guards telling us VISITING HOURS ARE OVER, YOU MUST LEAVE...
By having our own home even if we don't live long enough to pay for it, we will die in peace knowing that we passed away in our own home. This means so much to us.
The home we're seeking will basically cost 150,000, ranch style house because I'm unable to do stairs. You wouldn't believe the health problems that we've had, cancer my husband, shoulder and back surgery, and as for myself, knee replacement, two hip replacements, broken shoulder, covid, pneumonia and brain tumor removed and yet, this old girl refuses to die or give up until we have our dream home together. A real home that would wash away all those prison hours and years that we spent behind walls of broken dreams in the "Devil's Playground."
The Devil's Playground is a book we wrote together over twenty years ago telling the bad, good and the best is yet to come. Even though only our friends and a few family members bought the book, still it was our pride and joy. Go to www.chrisdutches.com to view the books and more about our lives.
Thank you for making two senior citizens dreams come true and may God bless everyone.
