Peaches' Surgery: A Call for Community Help
Donation protected
Hi, as you all know, we lovingly refer to our home as the Jarrell farm because of our four rescue dogs and bearded dragon. We will do anything for our babies! However, we are in a bit of a financial crisis right now.
We rescued Peaches six years ago from Lovejoy Foundation, who had rescued her and her puppies from Mexico. Peaches had continuously been passed by at the rescue, and people were surprised when we came to see her. She is basically an identical twin to our other dog, Tank, which is why we had sought her out! When we arrived at the rescue, we were shocked to see her hobbling; she seemed like an old lady! Turns out she had been hit by at least one car during her time in Mexico. After we did initial vet visits, it was confirmed that basically all four of her legs had been broken at different points and re-grown and healed on their own without medical attention. We knew it was going to be a risk of severe arthritis and potentially other issues down the line.
A few years ago, her knee did give out, and she tore muscles around it, which is also very common for Pitbulls. She had to get surgery to not only replace the kneecap but also create an ability for her ligaments to be repaired. That surgery was almost $15,000. A few months before that, Tank had jumped off a set of stairs and required basically the same knee surgery, although he just needed ligaments repaired rather than a new kneecap as well. His surgery was $10,000. We have never asked for donations for their medical expenses, but we are in a bind and need our community's help.
On Sunday, Tank and Peaches got into a scuffle by our front door, and somehow her leg got caught on something, and she broke her femur completely in half. Unfortunately, it was probably a matter of time before she needed another surgery just because all of her legs and bones are so weak from the previous injuries she had suffered from before we adopted her. She is such a survivor and a fighter that she was still trying to walk, even though her leg has been dangling since Sunday. We took her to the surgeon today, and it was confirmed on X-ray that her femur is literally broken in half. There is no other option other than to have her go into surgery immediately tomorrow morning to place a rod in her femur. Her recovery is going to be long, but we know we are in good hands with the surgeon at Access Culver City because he has done both dogs' knee surgeries, as well as that hospital saved my bearded dragon's life when he was suffering from a terrible infection. We definitely deserve a plaque there with how much money we have spent on our furry and scaly babies, lol. But in all seriousness, we had to pay for the surgery upfront, which we really cannot afford and had to take out loans and credit cards to make it work. The surgery is going to cost $10,700 total. We hate asking for any financial help and never want to feel like a burden, but we know how much people care about our animals and know how much we do for them. We would appreciate any amount at all so we can continue caring for the Jarrell Farm fully. Thank you in advance ❤️
