on tuesday morning this week i woke up to blood covering my apartment, throughout the day peach’s face began to swell as she continued to bleed out of her mouth. she was in so much pain that i was unable to look inside her mouth and neither could the vet. $1,000 later and they told me they assumed it was a tooth root abcess and that she would need surgery. i booked the soonest appointment for thursday 08/07 (her birthday ) and was told she would need to get $300 of bloodwork before surgery. thursday morning i took her in for surgery and the vet was not comfortable proceeding with surgery as her bloodwork showed that she had a very concerning low level of red and white blood cells and NO platelets, meaning that she would not be able to form a clot to recover from surgery and that even a small amount of bleeding could be fatal. i took her straight to the emergency vet and she has spent every night there since. they did a ct scan on 08/08 and found nothing abnormal that would be causing her facial swelling, and her bloodwork continued to come back with concerning results. today is 08/09 and she is staying another night to be monitored in case her red blood cell count drops to a point where she needs a blood transfusion and to see if anything improves. if not, she will need to have her bone marrow tested which is not included in the cost of my current $12,000 estimate. peach is my first ever dog and my soul dog and i have gone into $10,000 of debt already just trying to get an answer. i really just want to find out what is wrong with her so that she can be treated and come home as soon as possible. any amount at all helps and thank you!
