Chances are you don’t really know what I do. I get it, it’s sort of tough to explain it, but everyone knows once I start talking about the Peacemakers and the catalyzing & inspiring & selfless work they do, I don’t stop!
If you’ve heard me talk about my work recently, you know that I’m super excited about developing a podcast that would feature the Peacemakers. Chapters in books are the traditional case study modes where I work, but how enlightening and inspiring would it be to hear the Peacemakers tell their own stories in their own words?
I’d love to share how my dear friend Dishani survived a brush with death and draws on her Buddhist faith to train Sri Lankan youth and leaders of all faiths in conflict transformation.
And how the lovely Dr. Sarah fields the call from her Muslim faith to serve refugee and IDP camps in Erbil, Iraq.
Similarly, I want people to know how my dear friend Deng used her body to shield fellow peacebuilders from guns works to create alliances in Mindanao of the Philippines.
These are the stories worth sharing.
If y’all are skeptical about whether or not good exists in this crazy world (it really seems scary out there more times than not recently!), I’m here to tell you YES! And so are Dishani, Dr. Sarah, Deng, and many others. Good exists and SPREADS!
These are my friends who prove it, all without fanfare or praise. They offer a counter narrative to the current landscape that pits religions against each other, religious against the secular, and anything else that caustically infiltrates the current political landscape.
As we add more Peacemakers to the Network every two years, we’ll add more stories. From my research and training, I’ve learned that we’re all craving creativity and human connection, oftentimes through vulnerability. The Peacemakers and their stories do JUST THAT! They also reveal leadership styles, conflict resolution tools, empathic qualities, how to live life with intention and follow a calling/vocation that moves mountains (and molehills – after all peace begins with a seed), but also apply to the peacebuilding field and WHEREVER you are.
And now I need y’all – my beautiful people – to help me make an episode by raising $2,000!
My dream: A pilot episode funded and done. This requires planning, studios, and executive producer … and $2,000.
This will be the piece we provide to funders and donors in order to fund the rest of the episodes.
I’ve tentatively settled on a name! Ask and I’ll happily tell you.
If you’d like to know more from an academic perspective, check out a recent article I worked on in the Journal of Interreligious Studies: “Building Peace Through Trans-local Community and Collaboration: The Tanenbaum Peacemakers in Action Network ” by Joyce S. Dubensky and Tanenbaum Staff.
