Begun in 2007, Peace Sisters is a non-profit educational organization founded by Tina Kampor. Born and raised in Togo, West Africa, Tina moved to California in 2003 to become a registered nurse. Always remembering her background in Togo, Tina has managed to support the education of over 120 girls annually back in Togo.
In 2016, Peace Sisters was formally recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and it has since expanded to double the amount of girls in the program. Tina recognizes how much her own education has assisted her in accessing opportunities, and she has dedicated herself to extending this good fortune to as many young underprivileged Togolese girls as possible.
Peace Sisters emphasizes the education of female students because impoverished Togolese families are often forced to make tough economic decisions. Parents frequently prioritize their sons when they cannot afford to send all of their children to school, and this leaves an imbalance when girls are deprived of educational opportunities that their brothers receive. Peace Sisters seeks to fill this educational gap with the understanding that the education of female students will ripple out and benefit Togolese society as a whole.
