If you’ve lived for any period of time in the Flathead Valley, you’ve probably noticed that illegal drugs are a growing problem. Sadly today, many drug users admit that they became addicted to drugs during their adolescent years. What can we do about it?

Hi, my name is Brianne Marshall and I currently work for the Department of Corrections. Every day, I see first-hand the damages that drugs and drug use cause in families and in our community at large and I refuse to standby and do nothing. While my idea may not stop the flow of drugs in the Flathead Valley, I’m working to make sure that as many homes and businesses in our community are drug-free.

In a nutshell, here's my idea: start a Detection K9 company mainly focused on making early drug detection services available to parents and private businesses. Today, most of those services are limited to law enforcement and often, by the time the police and K9 unit get involved, it may be too late. This is where I can help. As a parent, have you ever suspected that your teenager is bringing drugs into your home but didn’t know how to start a conversation with them without proof? As an employer, are you worried that one employee may possess or storing drugs on your business premises? Call me! I would arrive at the location in an unmarked vehicle, use the dog to detect the presence of drugs and follow up with providing community resources with what to do next. It will be up to the parents or business owner to dispose of the substances found and what they decide to do next.

I am looking to raise approximately $20,000 to purchase the canine, train the canine and I to work as a team, liability insurance and a kennel to transport the canine in safely. I am committed to making our valley a place where we can live, work and raise our kids as much as possible free from the worries of drugs.
