Hi all!
Myself and Hailey both came to Tanzania at the beginning of March and spent 2 weeks volunteering in the hospital here. This week we have come to Peace House Daycare, a non-profit daycare set up by Sheddy and his lovely team of teachers.
After spending 2 days with them, it is clear they are in desperate need of a lot of help to keep things going. Sheddy has a dream of looking after all of the children for free to make things easier for the families that can’t afford childcare for their children whilst they go to work, but funding it by himself has been a real struggle and he is happy day to day if he can make sure the kids are fed and given clean drinking water whilst they are there. Some of the children here don’t have parents and are very sick, so we really want to do everything we can to help them. At the daycare they have no source of clean water (or any running water) and very limited supplies to teach and look after the children.
We really want to raise the $250 dollars it will cost to supply them with a big water tank to collect rain water, as well as a water dispenser so they can continue to buy 5 gallon bottles of drinking water to give to the children (this will be the cheapest way they can get drinking water for the kids once we are gone, whilst we are here we have been buying the drinking water for them daily) They have a list of things they are struggling with at the moment on the wall, which includes: food, water tank and water pump, salaries for his teachers, mattresses for the children to take naps, playing equipment. If we have any tech-wizard friends who are willing to help with a website then we would also be super appreciative!
We are hoping to raise as much money as we can by the end of the week so that we can go out and buy these things for them before we go. As one of us is a nurse and has done a number of examinations on the children whilst we are here, we have also decided to try and raise some money for some medical supplies as a lot of them are in need of antibiotics!
If anyone can spare even a couple of pounds/euros, it would be a huge help to Sheddy and the team, as that alone would supply enough money for food for a week!
