As you all probably know our family has been going through a rough patch but for those that dont know the whole story: my mom was a 17 year breast cancer survivor but earlier this year we found out she has an unrelated second cancer which was diagnosed as Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She was immediately put into chemo treatments which we did not find out until about 4 months in that they were not working. They then begin a higher-dose harsher regiment of chemo which was also unsuccessful. This left us having to turn to trial studies available and she was put up for potential access to a new cutting-edge one that was accepting 10 people from her cancer-type. We were overjoyed when we got the news she was accepted! But a few days later she was in unbearable pain and could no longer feel her right leg which up until this point was her non-problematic side. She was rushed to the ER where through a series of tests they found out that the tumors had completely invaded her spinal cord in the amount of time between being off treatments, to waiting for the trial study. This was causing such pressure on her back and nerves that she was becoming paralyzed. The only option was to immediately begin radiation treatments and steroids in hopes of shrinking them quickly enough so that she will be able to walk again. Unfortunately this disqualifies her for the trial we were so hoping and praying would be our answer. After going into the hospital to begin this, her son Cameron suffered seizures and complications and was admitted to a different hospital for testing. Also over the course of this, mom has gotten the news that she has to be let go and terminated from her place of employment due to her long absences from work.. her employer is a wonderful man who has helped our family more than we could ever show him gratitude for but this was just an unavoidable setback. Between that and the medical bills and the new medical bills accruing of my brother's, that my parents will have to shoulder I just wanted to start something that would ease a little bit of the financial burden somewhat. My mom is so independent and strong and proud that I knew she would never reach out for help with something like this. God has always blessed and taken care of us and we know He will continue to but sometimes it's ok to have your fellow believers help you along the way. I love my parents and I just want to do anything I can to make some of this easier on them. That is our story and even if prayers is all we get.. we are truly blessed!
