Pennies for Penny
Donation protected
**The current "goal" is a high estimate from the intake facility. The bill's grand total will be updated, and a photo of it will be uploaded, once Penny is discharged.**
Penny came in to our lives a little over a year ago... her dwelling before being rescued was a pitiful-sized cage: she had bare spots where the bars rubbed her fur off to the skin, due to spending the majority of every day crated. The moment I walked in and was barely within touching distance she leapt into and burrowed within my parka whilst quivering. We knew we had to save this precious little spirit; after no more than five minutes in the car, she was smitten and calm. Our hearts melted!
Laura, our Labrador: Chloe, and I love Penny. She is only 5 years old and we all have so much affection to give, time we want to give her, and places we want to explore- together, as a family.
Early this morning (1 June '18) I found penny lying, motionless... she didn't respond. As I approached I noticed she had vomited all of her breakfast and was incontinent. We gathered her up in a cloth, trying to rouse her whilst wiping her expulsions from her fur: her eyes were fixed, heart was racing, tongue was blue, and she was completely catatonic. The drive to one of Toronto's emergency centres was unimaginably stressful- traffic and tears consumed us.
The first two hours were very hit and miss because of massive blood loss... and the hellacious waiting period. Trying to stay positive and console one another sufficiently as to not breakdown in the waiting room was almost futile: further intensified because we were both coming off night shift and have still--at the time of writing--yet to sleep. We were unable to see her before we were informed she needed to be admitted for at least 3 days of ICU intervention. Although it was heartbreaking, the specialist suggested that since it was quite an upsetting and violent scene, as she was profusely vomiting and defecating blood, that we just leave without saying goodbye. I knew it would only worsen the looming days of waiting.
To add further insult to injury: we are both students. Laura and I are fortunate to be able to take exceptional care of our babies, but some emergencies are truly unforeseen. This is the case with Penny's tentative diagnosis: hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and still awaiting a neurology consult. We willingly undertake the full weight of her medical bills, because we will do anything to give this deserving, precious, delicate being the better life we promised her! No matter what, we will chip away at the debt... but our only option was to make use of our credit card.
Laura and I are at the mercy of the universe. We need your help to help Penny. Unfortunately, we were not given a total, as her medical needs are ongoing and will continue until she is stable; homeostasis could take more than the quoted 3 days. Please reflect on your financial situation, we beg you, and consider donating anything to help our little girl! Please.
Our desire is to assist with medical bills, only. Any remaining funds, after paying bills, will be donated to an animal charity in a verifiable fashion; we hope this conveys our earnest plea.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We deeply appreciate your time, thoughts, and charity.
