Hi, my name is Shane, and I’m fundraising to help my cat Edwin as he goes through cancer treatment. He was recently diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma, a particularly aggressive and painful form of cancer in cats.

I adopted Edwin from the SPCA when he was a year old—he’s ten now. He used to be incredibly shy, spending most of his time hiding under the bed. Over the years, though, he’s slowly come out of his shell and become the sweet, quirky, food-loving little guy I know today. He loves lounging in the sun, following me into every room, and playing with his brother and best friend, Billy Elliot (yes, also a cat).

A few months ago, I noticed a strange wound on Edwin’s lip. The vet stitched it up, but after a few weeks, it opened again. This time, they did a biopsy—and that’s when I got the news that it was cancer.

We met with a surgeon, but due to inflammation, she recommended we hold off on surgery and see an oncologist first. That led us to The Oncology Service, where Edwin had a full diagnostic workup. Thankfully, the oncologist is optimistic—they believe the cancer can be fully removed!

Right now, Edwin is undergoing chemotherapy to try and shrink the tumor. We’re scheduled for another assessment soon, and if things go well, he’ll have surgery to remove the affected area.

All of this—multiple vet visits, diagnostics, chemo, and upcoming surgery—has added up quickly and has become very financially stressful. The $4,000 I’m hoping to raise will go toward covering Edwin’s existing vet bills, chemotherapy, and the cost of his surgery.
