I was scammed
I was scammed when i was attempting to sell my old car on craigslist. I was desperate so i was an easy target. A potential buyer contacted me and we began discussing the details of the sale. They sent me a check in the mail which I innocently deposited into my bank. I trusted my bank to do their job and hold the funds until they checked everything on the check and make sure that it was legit.
They didnt.
Events fell in a way where my buyer needed me to return the funds quickly through a moneygram as there was an urgent life or death emergency that his son would die. I have a heart and i felt for the person, i would want someone to show me pity in such a situation. So I did as I was asked, i returned the money to him... the next day the bank reversed the funds of the check claiming it to be counterfeit.
This threw my bank account more then $700 into overdraft. Frantic I called the bank and demanded to know what happened and what could be done, I contacted police I did everything right. But even still I was told by the bank that it was my fault. I should have somehow known that the check was bad before I ever had deposited it. I should have known better.
And i do understand i should have been skeptical I see this in hindsight but i wanted to beleive that other people in the world were as honest as me. I was scammed out of $1700 I didnt have and all i want to raise is the amount to fix my bank account.
Any bit would help thank you. And I hope that this can be spread as kind of a warning that this doesnt happen to someone else.
