Shalonda and Phylicia Medical Bills

Donation protected
On December 27, 2014, my daughters Phylicia Cash (23 years old) and Shalonda Cash (19 years old) were crossing the street on Old National Highway to catch the bus at approximately 12:30 pm. Fulton County police were called to the scene. They had been hit by a vehicle and were badly injured.

I received a phone call informing me the accident occurred; and a car hit my daughter. I was frantic because I knew in my heart it was my baby daughter Shalonda. I was emotionally distraught and literally unable to move; let alone think. Somehow, in a trance, I was able to make it to the scene still in a daze. Once I arrived on the scene, I was totally unprepared for what I saw. The car had hit both of my daughters and they were badly injured. I simply could not imagine just how much and how bad this situation was at this point.

My youngest daughter Shalonda, had extensive cuts, scrapes, bruises and abrasions to her face. Her eyes were blackened and bruised and her eye socket was injured. She also had a hair line fracture to her leg.

My eldest daughter, Phycilia, was knocked completely unconscious and had more extensive injuries. Her right leg was broken and a rod was placed into her right knee. She tore her ACL and had many torn ligaments. Her left arm was broken and a metal plate and screws were placed in her arm. She also suffered a fractured nose and her front teeth were completely knocked out. Her pain during and even now has been excruciating and indescribable, as she has had to undergo two surgeries to repair her injuries. Her surgeries occurred on December 29th and December 31st 2014. She was hospitalized for close to 3 weeks and was transferred to a rehabilitation center for 2 weeks. She required 5 straight weeks of immediate medical attention. Phycilia was able to come home on January 28th, 2015, but was rushed back to the hospital due to an infection in her leg. She had to have 3 additional surgeries to clear up the infection. She was sent home with a wound vac machine to try to prevent the infection from coming back. Currently she has a long road ahead of her to complete physical therapy to learn how to walk and independently use her arm again.

The medical bills for both daughters are over $250,000. I am seeking assistance because I am a single parent and I work two jobs with no health or dental benefits.

I have to take days off without pay to care for my eldest daughter because there were times she could not be left home alone. So when I do not work, I do not get paid.

There are insurmountable bills piling up and I have no idea what I am going to do. I am deeply depressed. I am a crossing guard for Atlanta Public Schools and I do not make much money that affords this situation without healthcare. I have applied for Obama Care; however, I am not sure if I am even eligible. I have also been denied Medicaid.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!
