Post lungs transplant

El pasado 27 de abril fui operado exitosamente de un trasplante de pulmón, luego de estar cuatro meses corridos hospitalizado en esta última etapa, en espera del milagro. Durante ese tiempo, tres oportunidades de trasplante se perdieron, y fue en la cuarta, cuando muchos ya pensaban que no habría opción, que Dios obró con poder y lo hizo posible.

Mi camino no ha sido fácil. Pasé por cuatro hospitales distintos, casi un año completo de tratamientos médicos, innumerables citas, estudios y gastos, todo sin garantía de éxito. Pero en medio de todo, la mano de Dios nunca me soltó. Su grandeza, fidelidad y amor me sostuvieron en cada momento de incertidumbre, dolor y espera. Cuando no tenía fuerzas, Él fue mi fuerza. Cuando todo parecía cerrarse, Él abrió la puerta que necesitaba.

Actualmente, me encuentro en proceso de recuperación en casa, después del alta. Estoy siendo tratado en el hospital UT Southwestern en Dallas, Texas, con citas médicas cuatro veces por semana durante los primeros tres meses, incluyendo infusiones, broncoscopías, análisis de sangre CBC, tratamiento con dermatología, seguimiento pulmonar y monitoreo con espirómetro. También estoy inscrito en el programa de seguimiento postoperatorio para trasplante de pulmón.

Además, tomo cerca de 25 medicamentos al día: inmunosupresores, antibacterianos, antivirales, insulina (por el efecto de algunos medicamentos en mi azúcar) y medicamentos para la presión arterial. Todo esto requiere un nivel de cuidado diario muy exigente.

No puedo manejar por tres meses, y eso ha hecho que mi esposa haya tenido que convertirse en mi cuidadora a tiempo completo, desde mi ingreso hasta ahora. Esto nos ha traído muchas dificultades económicas, pero también nos ha unido como familia y ha hecho aún más evidente la presencia de Dios en cada detalle.

A pesar de todo, mi corazón está lleno de gratitud, porque Dios ha sido grande conmigo. Me ha sostenido con Su mano, me ha dado paz en medio del caos, y me ha regalado esta nueva oportunidad de vida. A cada persona que ha orado, que ha ayudado, que ha estado cerca: ustedes han sido instrumentos de Dios para mi restauración. Gracias por ser parte de este milagro. On April 27, I underwent a successful lung transplant after being hospitalized continuously for four months during my most recent and most critical stay. During that time, three transplant opportunities fell through, and it wasn’t until the fourth attempt when things seemed most uncertain that God, in His mercy and greatness, made it possible.

This journey has not been easy. I went through four different hospitals, nearly a full year of ongoing treatments, countless appointments and tests, and overwhelming financial strain. But through it all, God never let go of me. His greatness, His faithfulness, and His love carried me through every storm. When I had no strength, He was my strength. When all doors seemed closed, He opened the one that mattered most.

I’m now recovering at home after being discharged. I continue treatment at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, with four medical appointments per week for the first three months, including infusions, bronchoscopies, weekly CBC labs, dermatology visits, pulmonary follow-ups, and spirometer monitoring. I’m also enrolled in the post-lung transplant follow-up program.

I take around 25 medications daily immunosuppressants, antibiotics, antivirals, insulin (due to medication-induced blood sugar changes), and blood pressure meds. The treatment is intense and requires daily attention and care.

Since I’m not able to drive for the first three months, my wife has stepped in as my full-time caregiver, from the day I was admitted to the hospital until today. This has brought significant financial hardship, but also shown us the presence of God in every detail.

Despite all the challenges, my heart is full of gratitude, because God has been truly great to me. He has upheld me with His hand, given me peace in the storm, and blessed me with this new chance at life.
