Help Keep Raquel and Her Family In Their Home
Donation protected
Community,
We are calling on you to help Raquel and her two children avoid eviction from their home in Petworth, DC. Raquel and her two children are longtime residents of the DMV, and they have been in community with us for several years, including through some very tough times. Four years ago, Raquel’s husband, Javier, was ripped from his family and our community after a years-long battle with ICE, which many of you helped him fight and supported him, Raquel, and their children through.
Since losing their loving husband and father, upon whom they depended on for emotional and financial stability, Raquel and her two children, ages 8 and 14, have been struggling to survive. Raquel has been working whenever she can, but she has been unable to find regular work sufficient to cover their bills and feed and support her children amidst ever-rising cost of living. She has fallen significantly behind on rent and is at serious risk of eviction.
The years-long struggling to get by and to take care of her family has taken a toll. Her mental and physical health have suffered, and she is currently experiencing severe depression. Raquel tells us that if she can just pay her backlogged rent and stabilize her family’s living situation, such that they are not constantly worried about finding themselves on the street, she thinks they can be okay. We are raising money now to keep Raquel and her family in their home. We are also looking for community members with the means to provide sustained support to Raquel and her children over the coming months and years. If you are in a position to potentially help beyond a contribution to this GoFundMe, please reach out via the email button on this page.
Please help support this family that has been devastated by the US’s cruel and unjust immigration system, DC police’s refusal to cut ties with ICE, and our nation’s utterly broken social safety net.
They, and we, are deeply grateful for your support.
