But I am also a proud Jamaican and am fundraising for Hurricane Melissa disaster relief for Jamaica. I was born in Jamaica and grew up in Jamaica and I would submit a good example of Jamaica's motto "Out of Many, One People"; Jamaica is a melting pot of different racial and ethnic groups.

Some people have been asking me how they can help. There are a lot of fraudulent site and scammers so I thought I would set up this fundraiser so that people can donate with confidence that their money will go where it is needed most.

I have personal experience with collaborating with the Government of Jamaica, the current High Commissioner to the UK is a school mate from high school, and I did volunteer work with the largest charity in Jamaica, Food for the Poor (https://www.foodforthepoorja.org/) for many years.

The damage caused by the maximum category 5 hurricane to the island has been well documented in the news. The area that was worst affected is the main food producing area of Jamaica so food security will be a problem for some while. Some people have lost everything.

Jamaicans are resilient, many being descendants of people who survived extreme hardship but the people and country would welcome any help to rebuild.

I will personally ensure that all monies collected (minus the processing fees of GoFund Me) will go directly to the Government of Jamaica and or a reputable charity that can leverage matched funding, such as Food for the Poor. This will be done through direct liaison with the High Commissioner to the UK, Alex Williams, and or with the charity themselves.
