'PDA' Series Fund

PDA

I am currently kicking off the second part of my ongoing personal project, 'PDA' (Public Display of Affection), a multimedia series following queer couples displaying public affection in various locations. While there are some more queer-friendly locations where being out is celebrated and PDA is accepted, I continue to document queer couples in more conservative towns in the Midwest and South, where it can be dangerous. It's imperative to highlight that objective reality that we all experience and want love but not constantly feel the most confident or safe depending on our environment.

I am following longer-term relationships to learn more about queer love, including interviews and going more in-depth about their first experiences being out and openly affectionate. 

The Ask

Due to inflation and the rising cost of film, I am kindly asking for donations to assist me covering the cost of film and help me travel safely to continue highlighting these stories. I have had the great opportunity to keep this project in film, making the series vibrate and timeless but intentional; understanding I only have a number of shots for each roll makes the intimacy and tenderness between my subjects and me stronger throughout the shooting process.

About Me

My name is Kadar R. Small, and I am a Trinidadian, Brooklyn-based Photographer & Director. My work focuses on documenting the BIPOC queer experience, specifically in relationships and intimacy.

More about PDA: the series 

My solo exhibition for the first part of PDA will be on exhibited at Ilegal Mezcal and will be hosting a fundraiser for the charity wayOUT. Come say hi on opening night June 16th! PDA will be on display from June 16th-July 10th.
