With a smile you are greeted by Chelsea Lyons, and within minutes of meeting her you’re enveloped by her sweetness. To friends, family and acquaintances Chelsea’s love and grace is commonplace, yet it takes moments like these to really appreciate that she’s a wonderful light with which we are truly blessed.
Chelsea Lyons was diagnosed with stage 4, triple negative breast cancer on February 5th 2015 at the young age of 26. Numerous tests and biopsies followed in the subsequent weeks and on February 20th, Chelsea learned that the cancer had spread to the bone in her lower spine. She has visited doctors offices and hospitals for second, third and fourth opinions and to develop the best course of action. Since Chelsea’s type of cancer is so aggressive, the oncologists wanted to start treatments as quickly as possible. On February 24th, Chelsea had a port put in and two weeks later her chemo treatments began. Chelsea receives chemo every Monday for the next 3 months, with one week off after 3 treatments. Chemo has certainly taken its toll on Chelsea, while she starts feeling the effects by Tuesday,Thursdays seem to be her worst day.
Between this hectic medical schedule, the physical effects of the chemo and an emotional toll throughout, Chelsea has been unable to return to work as a waitress. Though this whirlwind immediately changed her life, she hopes to return to work, even if in a limited capacity.
We’ve started this gofundme page to help Chelsea focus her energy on fighting this disease, rather than worry about its costs. Day to day expenses, medical costs with unforeseen limits and a diminished income are all the burdens that threaten to dim this light in our lives. Though we realize we cannot overcome all of Chelsea’s obstacles, together we can brighten her light and bring Cheers to Chelsea.
