From Palestine to Ireland

A dear friend of mine, Amir Sabra, a Palestinian who lives in Askar refugee camp in Nablus, has recently secured a scholarship to study a Masters at the University of Limerick in Ireland. The scholarship only covers his tuition fees and without funding for living expenses (rent / travel / food / books) he will not be able to fulfil the conditions of his scholarship and continue his studies.

Amir's background

Amir has set up a project called “Spaces of Expression” which has worked with over 400 children in refugee camps across Palestine. He has been instrumental in providing a platform for young Palestinian children to express themselves through creative arts and dance, and this has made a significant contribution to improving the physical and mental health of children who struggle daily with occupation, poverty and a lack of social mobility.

Amir has also created a professional performance collective which has brought together Palestinians from the West Bank, the Occupied Territories and the international diaspora.

• Rent: £5,650 for the academic year (confirmed amount)
• Food and other living costs £2,350 for the academic year
