It is an extremely humbling experience, yet one that I do not want others to endure. In sharing this story, I hope to show everyone how much mothers are valued and cherished. Initially, I was so hesitant to set up this fund since I am not very good at writing, and I live an ordinary life, moreso not really active on social media. However, our friends, colleagues, and concerned individuals have asked how we can be supported which I will forever be grateful. Despite the fact that our mother is the only parent we have in our home country, she had a difficulty obtaining a dependant visa here in the UK, instead she came for a visit so she could spend more time with us. Heartbreakingly, a few days after our mom arrived, she suffered from stroke that affected her ability to speak and move. She received life-saving treatments in the NHS hospital which evidently cost a lot given the extent of her therapy required. She’s in need of ongoing physical therapy and treatment on her road to recovery. Together with my two siblings, we will be involved with her care. Seeking for a private specialist rehabilitation can be expensive and even be more financially draining. The only thing we aspired is for our family to be together. Our mum built our world and dreamt for us, and now our longing is for her health to be well. Whatever compassion, love and care people around us see in me and my sisters’ hearts, came from her first.
