I am reaching out on behalf of my mother, Laurie Austin, who was recently in a devastating accident. On, 9/30/25, My mama was in a serious car accident and suffered a diffuse axonal injury (DAI) - a severe form of traumatic brain injury. While she's shown incredible strength and retained full motor function (with physical support), she is currently unable to speak or respond meaningfully.
She is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) at UC Davis Medical in Sacramento, and has been for the past 8 days. The doctors are working tirelessly, and we remain hopeful for signs of progress. But the road ahead is long and uncertain. Watching her go through this has been heartbreaking - yet her resilience reminds us daily of her fighting spirit.
On, Tuesday 9/30/25, my mother was life flighted to UC Davis Medical Center after a terrible car accident that rolled her vehicle, leaving the entire passenger side of her truck crushed inwards. We believe that due to the conditions of the road her tire may have caught the edge of the pavement and as an attempt to regain control, we suspect she may have overcorrected causing her to lose control of her vehicle. She was tossed around leaving her incredibly bruised and with a possible small fracture on her left leg but we don't have all the details yet as she is unable to speak due to the DAI (brain injury) that she's suffered as well.
Unfortunately my mom has no health insurance. Each day in the ICU adds to medical bills - not to mention the life flight, ambulance cost, future rehabilitation, therapy, medications, and possible long-term care once she's stable enough to leave the hospital.
Our family is doing everything we can, but the reality is that the medical costs are already extremely overwhelming and will continue to grow.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Even sharing this fundraiser helps tremendously by expanding her circle of support.
If you are unable to donate, we simply ask -that you keep my sweet mama in your thoughts and prayers - every bit of love and hope fuels her recovery.
Due to an already stressful financial situation, a baby on the way, and now cost of lodging and gas for frequent trips to be by my mothers side - we also are accepting side-work for Joe if anyone is in need of yard clean up please message my husband. A meal train link will also be listed below if either of those methods of support would be more suitable for you.
I will post regular updates on her condition and how the funds are being used. We are also actively looking into any other assistance such as California financial assistance and Medi-Cal coverage to help reduce costs where possible - but out-of-pocket expenses remain immense, especially for immediate care and rehabilitation.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion, generosity, and prayers.
Your support gives our family hope during one of the hardest chapters of our lives.
With love and gratitude,
Madison & Family
