On June 8th 2015, he became ill and weak.  On the 9th, he started suffering from low oxygen levels and his blood pressure drastically went low.  We called the Ambulance and immediately transported him to the Mountain View hospital.  Later on they discovered an infection in his blood.  After 8 weeks of antibiotics through a pick line in his arm, the doctor cleared him of the infection.  4 weeks later he fell to the floor while walking to the bedroom.  Once again we called the ambulance and immediately transported him back to Mountain View hospital.  Once again after CT scans and MRI’s they discovered the infection traveled to his spinal cord.   At this time he lost complete movement from his Legs, becoming paralyzed from the waist down to his feet.  My father has been in and out of the hospital since June, and the last 2 months he’s been in and out of rehabilitation center and hospital.

On September 9th, he was scheduled to have a surgery which would’ve allowed the Dr to remove 2 disks from his upper back, and build a “cage” and attach this apparatus to his spinal cord and cleaning up any traces of infection.  This surgery would’ve been an intense, high risk 8-10 hour operation.  After wheeling my dad to the operating room, the anesthesiologist administered the second dose of anesthesia.  Immediately his blood pressure fell and oxygen levels fell; his heart stopped.  The doctors told us the he had died on the operating table and after administering CPR he came back.  The surgery did not take place.

Later on that day his cardiologist ran a CT scan and found out that a blood clot in his left lung caused his heart to stop.  After treating this clot, and speaking with his primary Dr and cardiologist, they advised him not to go forward with the surgery because of the high risks in losing him again.  One week later he made the decision of not going thru the surgery and risk losing his life and putting his family through grief and sorrow.

On October 2ND, he is scheduled to be releases from Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern New Mexico.  He will be going home with a Hospital Bed, 3 in 1 chair for bathroom/shower necessities, and transport chair all paid through Medicare.

His mobility is now pending the purchase of a mechanical wheel chair.  Medicare will cover 80% of the total cost of $19,000.  Our family will need to cover the remaining 20% or $3,800.  My parents are on a fixed income of only social security.   At this point we are in need of financial assistance and donations for this purchase.
