Boxer dog research into ARVC & JKD
Donation protected
Dr Bruce Cattanach is the leading geneticist helping the Boxer breed understand and overcome hereditary diseases affecting the heart and kidneys -ARVC and JKD (Arrythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy and Juvenile Kidney Dysplasia).
Along with three UK cardiologists and a Canadian human cardiologist, Bruce has managed to get a genetic paper published in a veterinary journal showing how a mutation in the striatin gene was not responsible for Boxer BCM/ARVC, as claimed, but is only linked to it on the same chromosome. The finding should aid new research to find the actual gene. This paper needs to be made available to everyone, vets, cardiologists and Boxer owners , but this unfortunately requires what is called ‘Open Access online publication’, and this costs £1950 + 20% VAT
Sadly the UK Breed Council cannot provide any financial support.
Please support research. Please help with whatever donation you can afford. Once we manage to raise the £2340, the balance will help the ongoing research into JKD.
Thank you
