Hello. Our names are Vic, Lynn and Bill. We have a very dear friend named Mary Lou. Mary Lou has been suffering from a terrible life disabling illness for over 2 years. She has spent her life helping others and we feel it is time to give back and help this beautiful spirited woman.
Mary Lou is a RN with over 39 years in the field. But, even outside of her profession, Mary Lou has always been a person who can be counted on to help others in need. Whether it is a friend, family member or co-worker, she has always been the first to step up in any given situation.
Mary Lou has gone so far as to have taken in a homeless woman. She brought her into her house and gave her not only a roof over her head, but a place to call home. She helped the woman by giving her free room and board until she was able to make it on her own. More importantly, Mary Lou gave the woman a sense of belonging. This is only one of many instances we could share with you about our friend.
In 2009, Mary Lou tested negative for c-diff six different times. She was given Flagyl to treat her, which helped temporarily a few weeks at a time, but her condition continued to deteriorate. In 2011 she did test positive for c-diff and was finally put on an antibiotic.
Fast forward to 2014. At any given moment Mary Lou will be overcome with excurciating sharp pains in her abdomen, experience terrible nausea and fits of throwing up. Her intestinal system fails her and she goes through horrible bouts of diarrhea. She has fallen to the ground from dizziness and terrible pain during these attacks. Many times the pain becomes so intense she will pass out.
She has been rushed to the ER numerous times. She has spent countless days in the hospital for tests and more tests only to be sent home until another occurrence would bring her down in disabling pain, fear and embarressment, especially when they occur in public.
During these last two years of seeking help, our friend has sustained a devastating amount of medical bills.
Even with medical insurance, she has now used up what little 401K she had.
Mary Lou has been losing weight, although she was not overweight to begin with, has become pale and extremely weak and thin. Many days, she is unable to get out of bed at all. Even simple caretaking of herself such as brushing her teeth or showering exhausts her.
She just started taking Budesonide for severe inflammatory bowel disease. The cost is $325.46 for a month's supply and most likely will be on it till the end of the year. She has been on disability, and still owes $4,500.00 for her other medical expenses.
Mary Lou is one of the most loving, funny, generous and giving persons we know.
