Please help to fund Tricia’s medical studies (pictured above with her mum, grandmother and Laura).
Laura from Just Trade has been working with fair trade projects in the shanty towns of Lima, Peru, since 1997. For more than 17 years, she has worked closely with the Sotomayor family from the Hope Jewellery project in La Tablada de Lurin.
Cristina Sotomayor coordinates the whole project and her sister, Paty, is a very important member of the team. Paty’s daughter, Tricia, has dreamt of being a doctor for as long as she can remember, but the odds have been stacked against her. She didn’t go to private school, her parents don’t have the resources to pay for all the fees, books, travel, utensils and uniform, etc. that are required throughout the seven years and nobody in her family has ever been to University.
Despite all these challenges, she is about to enter her fourth year of medical studies at the University of San Ignacio de Loyola.
The family has worked very hard to support Tricia in her studies and Tricia herself works for Hope Jewellery in her holidays. We are also trying to do what we can to support her and have been extremely grateful for the generous contributions of friends and family over the years.
We are keen to continue supporting her for the duration and are relieved that we are nearly half-way there. If you would like to contribute, any gift, no matter how big or small, will be very gratefully received. £5,000 will go a long way to paying for this year's studies.
If you want further information, do feel free to contact us at the email address below.
We cannot transfer the money directly to Tricia from this page, so Ali is collecting donations on her behalf in a dedicated bank account and will transfer any funds that come in.
