Last night the unimaginable happened.

In a car accident just before midnight on East Hill, Dartford, where our sister, Donna, sustained serious injuries, Donna’s beautiful daughter Darcy was also cruelly taken from us, far too soon, in the same collision.

Donna and Dal have lost their beautiful daughter.
Billy, Albie, Ty and Lulu lost their precious sister.
Ben lost the love of his life.
And the wider Bruce and Lawrence families have had to come to terms with the loss of their niece, cousin, granddaughter and friend.

If the comments on social media are anything to go by, Dartford has also lost one of its most precious souls.

The road ahead is uncertain.

Donna’s hospital stay could be lengthy due to the severity of her fractures, meaning she and Dal will need deal with the tragic loss of Darcy alongside looking after  baby Lulu and their other children - all the while handling huge financial pressure to cover lost work, childcare and travel expenses to London and back each day.

More certain is the fact a day no parent ever hopes to face will not be too far away. I’m sure you know the average funeral costs in excess of £5000. It’s an expense we never ever considered.

With this in mind we have started this this page as a way to show our love and support to Donna, Dal and the kids, and the wider family, in a practical way.

The money raised* from your generosity and compassion will help ease the burden of unexpected expenses, and help see the family through the uncharted days of grief that lie ahead.

On on behalf of the immediate family, grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings and cousins, any support will be gratefully received. If you can’t afford to give, please don’t feel pressured. Your prayers and encouraging messages have meant the world.

Thank you you so much.
This feels like an unending bad dream.

(*donations may appear on statements as Go Fund Me Darcy or Just Such a Time book on bank statements. When I set my Go Fund Me account up initially, two years ago, it was for a different project. I can verify your payment is For Darcy if needed. I have since amended the campaign name. It was an oversight in a time of grief.)

Donna Bruce and Darren Newsome together with Ben Jones would like to invite all those who knew and loved Darcy Bruce Lawrence to her funeral service on Friday 9th August.

The service will be held at Net Church Dartford (the old bingo hall) and will start at 12.30pm.

We would ask that all those attending the service wear something pink, in honour of our beautiful Darcy who loved pink.

Following on from the service, everyone is invited to Stone Pavilion from 2pm-6pm for the wake.

Please note that the burial at the graveside will be private and is for family only.

Hi all - please don’t worry if our For Darcy appeal looks different - I appealed to Go Fund Me asking if we could be on reduced fees (the cost taken from each donation to process the payments) - so we had to move the appeal. New givers won’t know the difference but you may. Just wanted to reassure you.

Finally I’m bringing you some good news! This happened today... Donna managed to walk to the day room AND she was reunited with her little girl, after nine days.

This, for us, is miraculous.

The same accident that took Darcy from us left Donna with a smashed pelvis, crushed vertebrae, internal bleeding and a broken sternum. And yet, just nine days on we are celebrating unbelievable progress.

But in no small part your contributions have helped this. When the weight of money worries was lifted the only thing left to do was for Donna to get better, and for all of us to concentrate on supporting her any way we can.

A move to Darent Valley is our next goal, and from there, home.

Thank you once again, on behalf of our whole family, for bringing love and hope into some of our darkest days. As we begin to plan a funeral worthy of our beautiful girl we know we will have some more tough days to come. But again, you have made that easier for us to handle.

This will be my last update for a while - I will let you know where and when Darcy’s funeral service and wake will be.

With love x
