Avro Lancaster Just Jane Wings Fund
Donation protected
Hi, this year I am hoping to raise funds towards the restoration project to get Lancaster NX611 ‘Just Jane’ to fly again.
2023 marks 80 years since my Dad’s cousin Gordon Burness flew Lancasters, finishing at the Former RAF East Kirkby, now the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, where ‘Just Jane’ is based.
I am doing this in memory of Gordon, his crew, the 58,000+ who were lost, and all of those who served with Bomber Command during WW2.
Gordon was just 21 when he captained his crew. Having completed most of their tour of Duty with 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron the Burness crew transferred to East Kirkby as one of the founding crews of the new 630 Squadron, so I will be attempting to walk 630km from 30th March, the date he started his final training to 8th December, the date he transferred out to become a pilot instructor, back where he completed his own training a few months earlier. I’ve also set my fundraising target at £630 for this reason.
It’s going to be a big challenge, and I would be extremely grateful for any donations towards it!
If you’d like to read more about Just Jane and the reasons behind this project, you can find details here: https://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/about/museum-history
I hope to add some interest by giving updates on what the Burness crew were doing on various dates during my walk, as well as my own progress.
Thanks in advance for your support!
