Paying Tribute to Robert (Bobby) Perry
Don protégé
Tragically and unexpectedly, our dear friend and brother, Bobby Perry, passed away suddenly on November 17th. With Bobby’s son, Danny, and his daughter, Melissa, at his side, paramedics were unable to revive him and he succumbed to his ailments and joined our Father in Paradise.
While most of Bobby’s medical expenses have been taken care of by his family and insurance, Bobby’s family needs your help to say a proper farewell to our beloved friend to assist with funeral and burial expenses. And more importantly, we want to ensure that Bobby’s son, Danny and his daughter, Melissa, both have the financial support they need as young adults going through this tragic time.
If you were lucky enough to know Bobby, you’d know what a great man, teacher, friend and father he was. As one of his best friends since junior high, I first met Bobby in PE class at Southwest Junior. We immediately bonded over our love of football and baseball. He was my QB in flag football and I was his favorite target in the passing game. We would trace receiving routes on the palms of our hands and Bobby would float the ball up like Dan Fouts to Kellen Winslow. Over the years, Bobby made it a priority to build and foster the relationships of his close friends and until the end, we’d still throw the football around at picnics and such and make time also to toss the baseball. He’d always try to show me how to throw a curveball and change-up. I never learned how to throw them, but his son did as a pitcher in youth leagues. His passion for sports lived til his last days. We would regularly go to Padres games with Danny and Melissa and we messaged daily, pretending to be GMs and sportscasters.
Anyone who knew him during his wonder years would also know what a big ‘nerd’ he was when it came to Star Wars, WWE, Marvel and DC movies, etc. Just this past week, we were both geeking out on the latest Star Wars show, Andor. And he became quietly obsessed with the play, Hamilton over the last week, as well. We will all miss the smiles, laughs, banter and jokes from Bobby’s love of sports and entertainment.
Bobby graduated from San Diego State University with a master’s degree in political science, and used it to educate hundreds of students at Scripps Ranch High School, National University, and Mira Costa College. Bobby was an incredible professor, always so interactive and helpful for his students, and he cared for them deeply. He was always willing to share his knowledge with those who sought it out.
Bobby’s true love was his love for his children. Over the years, I don’t think I knew a father who was more proud of and involved with truly doing everything possible to give his children the best life they could have. It’s no wonder that Danny (who will be attending Bobby’s alma mater SDSU this coming year) and Melissa (who recently graduated from SDSU) are such smart, kind and caring individuals.
Now Bobby and his family need your help. Bobby’s passing was unexpected and sudden. And while his family and insurance have taken care of most all of the medical bills, we need your help in funding a proper farewell with the funeral, viewing, and burial services and to help ease the financial responsibilities that his two children are faced with.
We’re hoping to have details for his services as soon as possible. 100% of the funds collected, after campaign fees, will go directly to Bobby’s children to fund Bobby’s farewell services and expenses.
With love and sincere thanks in advance-
Bobby’s family and friends
