Paying tribute to Rene Torres

It is with great sadness I am sharing news of the passing of Rene Torres. Rene passed away Thursday evening as a result of injuries suffered in a crash at Barona Motocross Track on Sunday June 9th.
Rene lost control of his bike and left the track at a high rate of speed. The crash also critically injured a spectator that was near the track. As of this writing, the spectator’s (known to many in the motocross community as Rudy) condition has been improving although he remains hospitalized.
Rene was air lifted to Sharp Memorial. Rudy was transported from the track in an ambulance but then airlifted to Sharp Memorial.
Rene is survived by wife Atlantida, and son’s Giancarlo and Giovanni.
Rene’s wife Atlantida has given me permission to launch this campaign on the family’s behalf. The medical expenses, air ambulance cost, and other costs will be significant. I am certain that any help will be greatly appreciated. Atlantida will be the sole administrator of the funds raised.
I was at the track with Rene the day of the crash. Rene’s son and my son are good friends who share the same passion for riding dirt bikes. It is this common passion that introduced me to Rene. We were all enjoying a great day with a group of a dozen family and friends but in an instant, it turned tragic.
As a result of the crash, Rene suffered significant injuries including his hip, ribs, and abdomen. He was rushed to surgery after the accident to address internal bleeding and other injuries. Some time later, his kidneys began to fail. The doctors were unable to overcome the kidney failure and Rene passed on.
The time I spent with Rene was typically with the boys on one motocross track or another, or enjoying a bite to eat afterward. In that time, I came to know Rene as a very good man, a caring and dedicated father, and a loving and devoted husband. Rene and I shared a passion for motorcycles that we were able to share with our sons. Sadly, however, the tragedy has left us all hurting.
My heart is broken for Rene’s family. I know they are devastated by their loss. Please help with a donation and share this page on your social media if you can.
The family is in the process of making funeral arrangements. I will post an update when I get more information as I am unsure of their wishes and plans at this time.
