Paying Tribute to Melanie O'Neill

Donation protected
In 1974, Melanie O'Neill was born within the Algoma region of Northern Ontario, adopted by a loving non-Indigenous family who always prioritized Melanie’s connection to her Indigenous identity and culture.

From a young age, Melanie requested Indigenous literature that spoke to Indigenous children experiences, fostering her passion for Child and Youth Work. This accomplishment provided her with the knowledge to support vulnerable children and propelled her journey as a helper.

Throughout the years Melanie worked within group homes, community justice projects and evolved as an advocate for individuals experiencing homeless and enhancing Indigenous education within The Durham Catholic District School Board.

Melanie strongly believed that education is the key to helping youth reach their highest potential. Her dedication and kind spirit continue to inspire communities to continue to create space for true reconciliation.
