Honouring Mary Papatsie

Thank you all so much for donating and sharing the link! We greatly appreciate all the help. It has been decided that there will be a memorial service in Ottawa and Mary will be buried in her home community of Pangnirtung, Nunavut alongside her parents. Now that the decision has been made we are fundraising to help raise funds for airfare, accommodations, meals, memorial service expenses and any other related costs.

As most people do not know flights to Nunavut are very expensive. Flights rang around two-three thousand dollars (depending on when the tickets are purchase) per person from Ottawa to Pangnirtung and return.

The donated funds will be used towards Mary Malaya Ittukalla Papatsie’s memorial service expenses. Our family thanks you all for your support during this difficult time.

As many of you may be aware, we have been searching for our beloved Mary Papatsie since April 2017 when she was reported missing in Ottawa. After a painful 5 years of searching, our family can finally lay her to rest.

Mary Papatsie leaves behind ten beautiful children and two grandchildren. As the youngest of eight siblings, Mary also leaves behind a large family who have missed her and love her unconditionally. We are grateful to our community for your support and your recognition of her legacy as a caregiver, mother, aunty and respected and loved urban Inuit community member. Her smile and love for others will always be cherished and never forgotten.
