In memory of Luisa "Weesa" Magdalene Esquivel

Hello Friends and Family,

We are sad to announce the passing of our sweet  Luisa "Weesa" Magdalene Esquivel due to complications from COVID-19 on Jan. 28, 2021 at the bright age of 27 years old. We are asking friends and family to provide any assistance they can towards her final expenses. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for burial arrangements. We’re hoping that the Navajo Nation Burial Fund will cover some of the cost, but it is uncertain if she will qualify. Due to COVID restrictions, we will NOT be holding in-person services at this time however, two of her sisters will be present at the burial. We will schedule a memorial as soon as it is safe to gather.

Luisa is survived by her father, Jose, her Grandmother Effie Paul, her sisters, Jacquelina Urango (Hernandez) and Lorelei Jackson, as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and loving family members.

Luisa was full of life and brought joy to everyone around her. She always put a smile on peoples faces, dancing to Thriller, The Backstreet Boys or Selena. Her favorite pastimes were bowling, watching her "boyfriend" Luke Bryan and, of course, going to the movies. Her laugh was contagious, her smile was pure happiness and her soul was beautiful.

Luisa was Todichiinii (Bitter Water Clan) and born to Nakai’ (Mexican) who was raised in San Jose, California. Her maternal grandparents are from the Navajo reservation. Her grandmother is Effie Paul who is from Dennehotso, Arizona and her late grandfather, Keith Paul, from Sei Bi To’ (Sand Springs), Arizona.  Luisa was very much known and loved by her relatives and warmed everyone’s hearts. Her beloved, late mother Eva would take her to the Navajo fair’s and Luisa would have all the frybread she could eat.

Anything will help in this time of grief.

Thank you in advance for your donations.

Please be safe, stay healthy and much love from our family to yours.
