Yesterday, on September 14, as a complete shock for all of us, Kasey unexpectedly passed away. He would undoubtedly make fun of a sappy Go Fund Me campaign....oh, well, here it goes.
I am Kasey's sister-in-law, and my family only got to spend a few weeks every summer with the big guy, but he helped my children make the best Missouri memories that will stay with us forever. It was easy to take on big projects with him, like our annual giant 4th of July slip 'n' slides. We killed the grass underneath and flooded the neighbor's back yard. But are we building one next year again? "Heck yeah, I don't see why we shouldn't!", he would say. Huzzah float trips and fishing, barbecuing burgers with the best of them, and for everyone (as he was always the one on the grill). He was up for anything, no matter how miserably humid it was outside. He would sweat and grunt but he jumped in, and he included everyone, and he made everything more fun.
That was just in summer. I am jealous of all of the people that got to know "every day" Kasey. At church, at work, those he spent time with in the Army Reserve - I always heard he was THE guy you wanted by your side. THE guy that made the job go by quicker, and I'm sure made the drill weekends less miserable. Challenges, dares and off the wall "would you rather's" was his m.o. If he laughed, you laughed. He even made being chubby cool.
He's not here anymore, but his family is. His beautiful wife that still loves him unconditionally, his three talented girls, and his "boy team" buddy. If you have a minute, please share this link. If you, like me, are looking for ways to help and give, please donate. All of the money will go straight to the family to cover the immediate expenses.
We know that nothing will bring Kasey back, but I feel like he will always be here through the huge foot print he has left. His personality and the effect he had on people was too big to fade away and become just a memory.
Sincerest thank you for anything you could contribute. Hopefully I have made this, as Kasey would often say, "acceptable!"
