Paying Tribute to Carlos Zúñiga

Carlos was a son to our parents, brother to myself and our sister. Grandson to our grandparents. Friend to so many. He was a neighbor. He was a husband and a father to my niece and nephew.
Carlos was 30 when he passed very suddenly and tragically to suicide. He left this world to be an Angel in Heaven. He leaves behind his wife Tia, an 8 year old daughter, and 5 year old son. He leaves behind two family dogs, Broley and Lobo.
Carlos loved nothing in this world more than being a husband and a father. His family was his pride and joy. He told me on numerous occasions that his biggest blessing are his two kids, and his wife for creating his family with him. Carlos never cared about materialistic things, he craved experiences with his family. He frequently took road trips with his family to the California beaches in the summer, or to Mt Charleston in the winters. He was the most creative person I knew. He and his wife taught their kids to work hard for what they want, as well as cherish the moments as they’re passing. He wanted to capture every moment he could, he wanted what memories he was able to capture to be immortalized.
His 8 year old daughter looks like her mother, but is every bit as resilient as her father. She was always intrigued by where her father and his family came from. She loved to make things from scratch, and draw pictures of her family, for her family. I see his curiosity in her come out every single time I see her.
Carlos’s 5 year old son is a spitting image of him. He loves to show you how his video game is played, or how his toys work. He loves legos. He absolutely loves Marvel, like his father. He loves car rides, and is equally a momma’s boy and he is a daddy’s boy. I see my brother’s smile, and sense of humor in my nephew come out every time I see him.
My brother’s wife is an amazing, strong, smart, funny, kind person. Tia and my brother are high school sweet hearts. She is a phenomenal mom, we as a family are so blessed to have her. Tia is one of the most hardworking people I know, she puts in 1000% at work, and 2000% at home to her kids. Besides my own mom, I don’t know anyone who loves her kids and who dedicates herself to her kids more than Tia.
Often times, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. If only he could have seen how many people truly love him and wish he was still here.
There is no preparation for a tragedy like this; my sister in law is now a widow raising two young children. She’s now raising a daughter who will never have her father walk her down the isle on her wedding day, a son who will never experience coming home and running into his father’s arms after school. My brother will never be able to help his kids with their homework, or help either of them get ready for their first prom, or first job interview, or teach them how to drive.
We wish for a proper burial for Carlos, however funerals are very expensive and anything will help. This money will help with the funeral and memorial, as well as other expenses. In the wake of everything, my sister in law has decided she will sell their home, possible transfer the children to a different school. This will help her and her children get therapy and counseling. This will help with their two family dogs, a pit bull and a Husky, getting them their food and veterinary care, and possibly rehoming them.
I also want to shed light on mental illness and suicide prevention. If anyone reading this is suffering from suicidal thoughts or any mental illness, there are resources and there are people who will listen. They will intervene and stop a possible tragedy. If you are someone who is suffering silently, PLEASE reach out to someone, anyone. You may think and truly believe everyone around you will be better off without you, but that is just not true. Take that first step, if all else fails please please reach out to me. I will listen and I will be there for you.
Thank You to everyone in advance. I know my brother is looking down and watching over everyone. He is finally at peace.
