My sweet friend Alisha and her family have suffered an unimaginable loss this week. This sudden and very unexpected death of her beloved father has left the family completely heartbroken. Alisha and I have known each other for several years and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing all sorts of amazing stories about the wonderful man Al was. Loving and loyal husband to his wife Tania and a very supportive and loving father to his three children Jonathan, Jason and Alisha. Last Sunday November 22nd when Alisha reached out to me needing support in San Diego, I was able to spend Sunday evening and Monday with her offering as much emotional support as one could in such a devastating time. Feeling helpless and at a loss for what I could do to further support my dear friend and her family, I decided to start this donation platform to help assist the them financially during this incredibly tragic and unexpected time. Thank you in advance. Below you can read a message from the family.
We want to share a little background about how we got to this point. Three years ago, Al had open heart surgery to repair a tear in his mitral valve. A few weeks ago we found out he needed to have a second surgery to replace the same valve. Al and his wife Tania traveled to San Diego for what should have been a routine procedure and were planning on staying in San Diego for 2-3 weeks while Al recovered. Friday, Nov 20th Al went in for his surgery and it appeared to be successful. Over the course of the next few hours, the doctors and nurses identified that there were complications developing, and by Saturday morning decided they needed to go in for another operation to repair some holes that had developed in the lower chamber of his heart. Al underwent another long, intense and difficult 9 hour surgery. When the surgery was over the Dr told us that the procedure was successful, meaning they were able to repair the hole, but a lot of damage was done and he was very sick. We were told he would have to be in the hospital for a minimum of 3 weeks to recover.
At this point, Tania had been in San Diego alone while Al was undergoing all of this. Their daughter, Alisha was in Mexico and their sons, Jason and Jonathan were in Las Vegas. When they found out how sick Al was and how intense the recovery was going to be, Alisha got on a plane and flew to San Diego to be with her mom. At this point, the plan had been for their children to stay where they were because of COVID-19, they weren't allowed to be at the hospital with them. Sunday evening they were told Al had made some small progress. This was GREAT news. Small progress was progress and we needed to see more of this. They were all still hopeful Al would recover. Monday morning at 10:45am the Dr called Tania in, put Alisha and Al’s brother John who lives in Miami, on a conference call and shared the news that Al had declined overnight and that he was not going to make it. His body was too sick, and too much damage had been done. Jason and Jonathan made their way to San Diego to be with their family. On Monday, November 23rd at 6:00pm Al Molina took his last breath with his wife, Tania and 3 children by his side.
This page was created to support the family to cover the medical costs and travel costs so they don’t have to stress and worry during this tragic time. Al owned a business in the Trade Show industry and his business has been shut down since March due to COVID-19. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated to support their family in some of these unexpected costs they are presented with.
Please share your favorite stories and memories of Al, as the family would love to hear how much he meant to everyone in his life and please share this page to support the Molina family as they grieve the loss of this amazing man.
For those of you who don’t personally know Al, we would like you to know just a little bit about who he was and the legacy he is leaving. He was a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a godfather and a great friend. He was the strongest, hardest working man you ever met. He was loyal, and confident. An entrepreneur, and a creative. He could build and make anything out of anything. He was always joking and loved to make people laugh. His happy place was either on the water fishing, or in the mountains skiing or hiking with his wife and family. He was firm in his values and disciplined in everything he did. He was a protector and would do ANYTHING for his family, and anyone else who needed help. It’s unexplainable to imagine this life without him.
