On September 1, 2017, David Falvo passed away unexpectantly. For those of you who knew Dave personally, you knew him to be a very caring and generous person. He had such a big heart for helping those in need. As a way to keep his memory alive and to continue his kindhearted ways, we (his surviving wife Susan and his daughter Sofia) have decided to pay forward our blessings and help out the HighMark Caring Place here in Erie, PA. For two years, we attended the HighMark Caring Place and they helped both of us so much on our grief journey.
What is the HighMark Caring Place? This was taken from their website: “Our core purpose is to make a difference in the lives of grieving children. We provide peer support, where the children who attend come to know that they are not alone in their experiences and feelings. They and their families get support and encouragement from each other, facilitated by trained adult volunteers. In addition to these peer support groups, the HighMark Caring Place provides educational programs, consultation services, presentations and resources for schools and other professionals in the community who work with children. The HighMark Caring Place continually works to raise awareness of the needs of grieving children and how to respond to those needs.”
There is no charge for any of their programs and services and one does not need to have HighMark insurance or any type of insurance. It is completely FREE! Be sure to check out their website for more information. https://www.highmarkcaringplace.com/
Also be sure to like their Facebook page. Not only do they post about children going through grief, but also adults. It is a wonderful resource for anyone who is grieving. https://www.facebook.com/HighmarkCaringPlace/

Because Sofia and I were greatly helped by their services, we want to pay our blessings forward and do something for the children and teens at the HighMark Caring Place. We are collecting funds to be able to purchase books and plush bears from Usborne Books & More and bags from thirty-one.
For the younger children, we have decided on a book and plush called “Cuddle Bear”. The book is a sweet story about a bear that shows love and kindness to those around him by giving them a hug. The plush bear – well, he is just downright adorable! I know that these sets will bring such great comfort to a child who is grieving.
For the teens, we have decided to give them a choice of two different books. They will have a choice of either “Inspirational Quotes” or “No Worries”. “Inspirational Quotes” is a large-format coloring/poster book. “No Worries” is an activity book that is designed to tackle the complex emotions a teen faces. We will be putting the book into a thirty-one Cinch Sac for them. Who doesn’t love thirty-one bags?!!!!
You can be a part of this amazing opportunity to pay it forward! Would you like to join us in this project and make a donation to this cause? This will help to remind these kids and teens how many people care about them and that they are loved and supported. Most importantly, it is our desire that this will bring them comfort and give them hope for their future.
Your donation of $25 will cover one of these sets. Maybe your heart is moving you to donate $50 to provide a set to a younger child and a set to a teen. Maybe you’d like to pay forward your own blessings and donate even more. Any amount is greatly appreciated. You do not need to donate the full $25. ANY amount will help out so much.

As many of you know, a few years ago I was a consultant with Usborne Books & More. Because of Dave’s declining health, I was not able to give the time and attention that the job required and I had to give it up. Usborne Books & More is truly a wonderful, caring family company. They will match 50% of the money raised to help us donate even more books and bears!!! Yes, 50%!!!! On top of that generosity, the company also donates 5% of the proceeds from the sales of the Cuddle Bear books and plush to the Scott Carter Foundation, a foundation that funds childhood cancer research. Last week at their annual gala, Usborne Books & More had the pleasure of donating $25,000 to them!!! You can learn about Scott's story here: www.scottcarterfoundation.org
So not only will your donation be helping the kids/teens at the HighMark Caring Place, but you will be helping to fund a cure for pediatric cancer also.
Our goal for this project is $1000. I will be personally covering the percentage that GoFundMe takes when it comes to ordering the items, so that way every dollar of your donation will go straight to the cause. ☺️
This is so exciting for Sofia and me, to be able to do something like this to pay forward our blessings in memory of Dave. We know he is looking down on us and smiling!
Dave’s birthday is October 13th, so we will be collecting donations until that date. What a great birthday celebration it will be to announce what the grand total is on that day!
From the bottom of our hearts, Sofia and I would like to say a very big THANK YOU for your love for us and for your support of this project. May God richly bless all of you now and in the future.
