Paying it Forward for Val

My dear friend Val.

Val is the sweetest lady I've ever met, but she's had one of the hardest lives I've ever heard about.  Recently, her husband has fallen ill and she must drive him to the hospital several times per week.  She's got a car, works full time and does a generous amount of work for her church... but her car is a 1998 van that won't pass the smog check.  This has caused her a tremendous amount of stress.  Along with her husband's illness and her tight living conditions, the car situation is just daunting!  I'm pitching in $500 toward a new car for Val, but I totally need help with this rest!

Val works for Loma Linda University and is a devout Adventist and oh so deserving!  Please help me help her :)

Read more... An IE Woman Who Continues To Fight

A mother, grandmother and wife has been the only support of her family for years. She has been providing income for her family to survive through the tough times they’ve faced from losing their home, fighting health issues and an old van that just won’t cooperate anymore.

Several years ago, Val suffered a Brain Aneurysm which is, “a bulging area within the wall of an artery that supplies the brain” (medicinenet). While she was recovering from that in the hospital, she had drains for her injury which soon caused an infection in her eye. While the doctors had hopes of bringing her vision back after her recovery, that was not the case and she now suffers a loss of sight in one eye.

A couple of years after she had finally recovered, her family lost their home to a house fire. Her home was severely damaged and the cost of repairs was something she could not afford. They were forced to short sell the home and move into a mobile home where she currently lives with her husband who has continued health failures.

Through all her sufferings, she has been in the same old minivan that continues to break down on her. Originally, in August 2016, Val had hopes of buying a used van that wouldn’t break down on her every time she needed to go to work. The money was from her husband’s social security pension that was to finally start that month.

Again, her husband’s health had taken a turn for the worst and caused another delay in buying the car to help her run errands and get to places she needs to be. Val’s husband was beginning to feel extremely tired and did not want to get up. He was taken to urgent care where he was kept overnight due to symptoms of dehydration.

Days later, he was back at the hospital for dehydration again and the start of kidney failure. He was then diagnosed with severe congestive heart failure. She had to continue taking him to follow-up appointments in an unreliable vehicle.

While taking him to an appointment, her husband suddenly collapsed getting out of the car and was readmitted into the hospital for further procedure and tests. It was discovered that his arteries were almost completely clogged. This caused a stroke where he was then sent to rehab to recover for a couple of weeks.

Her husband is now recovering slowy as he walks with a walker and has lost about 90 pounds due to his illness. If you think that’s the end of it, it is not. Her husband was recently diagnosed with skin cancer and has begun his procedure for this, as well.

Val continues to stay by his side to help him to appointments while still providing the income for her family by working. She has not taken a vacation in well over five years and she has cashed out the maximum allowed vacation for the last several years so she can pay back any debt she had.

Through the struggles though, Val is still actively involved in Pathfinders with S.E. Conference as she is passionate about teaching bible study to the youth.

To help Val get that reliable car she needs to support her family by getting to work, running errands and to take her husband to his doctor appointments, please see the linked GoFundMe page and provide anything you can to help reach the goal.
