For those who have not experienced a Caribbean island, the island of Anguilla is paradise. Clear blue seas, white sand beaches, reggae music, delicious seafood....but there is a downside to living on a small island too...if you have a serious medical emergency, an air ambulance is required. Many locals on the island do not have health insurance. If you have a medical emergency you have to foot the bill yourself.
My dear friend Priest Gardener from Blowing Point Village and his wife Annica Charlamagne - Gardener were blessed with the birth of their baby boy A'zhaire in August 2023. A'zhaire was born at 27 weeks, thus 13 weeks premature. He was so, so tiny he could be held in the palm of your hand.
A'zhaire was in desperate need of serious medical attention and thanks to the quick action of the medical team in Princess Alexandra Hospital and the team from Servicios Aèreos Panamericanos S.A.S,
A'zhaire and Annica were flown to Colombia when he was only 4 days old.
A'zhaire spent months in an incubator fighting for his life. The good news is both Annica and A'zhaire are now back in Anguilla and he is doing really well.
However, Priest and Annica are now faced with the life long struggle of a bill which is over US$60,000. On an island where the basic wage is US$6.00 per hour you can only begin to imagine what this debt means to the future of this family.
To allow Priest, Annica and baby A'zhaire to move forward with their lives the aim of this GoFundMe is to reach a goal of gathering US$60,000. That would be 3000 people giving $20 each. What a blessing that would be. Please help this family to have a brighter future. Your help is vital.
