Car Stolen on First Amazon Flex Delivery

Donation protected
Note: Fundraiser goal changed from $30,000 (the amount of the stolen car that will impact my credit) to $12,000 as I am asking for help just to get a down payment on a vehicle and legal help on repairing my credit due to the loss

My name is Jeremy Anderson. I’m a 30-year-old IT professional and a father of 2. I have always been self-reliant and reliable to those around me, but due to this recent event, I’m in need of help from anyone willing to extend an arm as I’ve never been in this kind of situation before in my life.

3 years ago, I faced some big struggles after a car accident left me without a vehicle for 2 years. After those two years of hardship, saving money and finding a way to my job which was an hour away… I was finally able to get a new car and was so proud of myself and my resilience. However, after only having this car for a little over a year, it was stolen.

All the plans I had for myself and my family were shattered on January 28th, 2023. I wanted to make some extra money as money has been very tight lately. I decided to do Amazon Flex for the first time as it was a decent amount of money on short notice. I started at 5 pm and at 7:50 pm I was making a delivery in Hazel Crest. I pulled up in front of the building, turned on my hazards, scanned the package in the car and walked no more than 25 steps to the door to drop the package and take a picture of it for the app. At that very moment, a white car sped up from an unknown location and someone jumped in my car and took off. My car is push to start so even without the key the car will run until it’s turned off. I called the Hazel Crest police station and they failed to put the car into leads until the next morning around 8 am. Failure to place my car's license plate into leads means that if any officer scanned my plates it would not come back as stolen for the entire day that they drove it from town to town. I stayed up for 12 hours on the phone with police stations and tracking it with the Bluelink app. The car sat still for over 5 hours in one location overnight and Bluelink advised the police station and not one officer went to the location to retrieve my car. At around 5 am, the car was again being driven and after about an hour longer, the car's GPS tracking signal was lost. I could have gotten my car back if any ONE officer cared to take this seriously while it was parked for multiple hours. I believe I was set up. There was no car following me. Flex drivers can be tracked via the Amazon app and I believe this car was waiting for me in the parking lot I passed for the same building.

My insurance won’t cover the loss and I’m now facing a $30,000 hit to my credit and financial stability. I am now unable to take my children to school, unable to pick them up after school and unable to continue being their emergency contact as I have no way to get to them.

I’m embarrassed and asking for help from people I don’t even know. My spirits are at an all-time low. I want to spread awareness that doing Amazon Flex is extremely dangerous. Customers being able to see exactly on a map where the driver is and how many stops away they are is an opportunity for things like this to happen to anyone. This happened on my first delivery job with them. Thanks for taking the time to read and thank you to anyone and everyone who extends generosity in this moment of my life.
