Hi, My name is, Anna Robb I am Jakoby's Mom.
On July 3, 2023 our son Jakoby (5 years young) had a severe set of cluster seizures. We were in Montana visiting Jakes Grandparents and Family for the 4th of July weekend, on the morning of the 3rd of July, Emma, Jakoby's Sister woke us up in a panic, because she saw Jakoby roll off of the bed and onto the floor (we were in our trailer at the time). Jake (Jakoby's Dad) and I ran over to Jakoby and saw that he was seizing.
The seizures lasted about six minutes. Even after giving him his rescue meds.
We rushed into town, which is about a 30 minute drive. Once we were checked into the ER he continued to have seizures, despite the multiple medication attempts to stop the seizure, there was no apparent cause for the seizures.
Jakoby and I were then Life Flighted over to Seattle Children's Hospital where he was admitted.
They were finally able to get the seizures under control around 9:30 that night, however we discovered he had a heart block during two of the seizures, so we were sent home with a heart monitor for him to make sure his heart was staying in rhythm and functioning properly as heart blocks are rare and can be very dangerous.
Jake packed everything up and drove back to Spokane from Montana to drop off our trailer and then he went to Seattle and arrived late that night.
We ended up being kept at the hospital for three days for monitoring and testing for everything. The heart block/atrial bradycardia is serious and we were told that we need to keep an even closer eye on the seizures and his heart condition, both during and in general.
We already have a camera/monitor in his room, but the Neurologist
recommended we either move him into our room or get some additional monitoring equipment for heart/seizures.
We have looked into many different options but most are not covered by Insurance or even available in the United States.
We now have a continuous heart monitor for him to wear every night and also purchased a new medical/seizure monitoring watch for him to wear through school (Kindergarten) this year.
All of this has placed a huge financial burden on the family as the bills have been pouring in.
Between Lift Flight, and medical devices/monitoring, the multiple trips to Seattle for Specialist Doctors and testing along with time off from work for all those visits, and with no clear answers for the cause for Jakoby's epilepsy, the cost unfortunately continues to grow.
This is not something we ever imagined doing (GOFUNDME) however we have been quite humbled by all of this and realize that we cannot do this alone and need to ask for help from our support system.
Anything and everything helps, and we truly appreciate the outpouring of Love and Kindness we have received from all of you.
Thank you and God Bless
