Help with Stevie's Emergency Vet Bills

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lizz and I’m raising money for my best friend, Cassie, and her cat, Stevie, and his emergency vet bills.

He had a massive urethral obstruction that affected his kidneys to the point where he was urinating blood (when he was able to urinate). Cassie rushed him to the emergency vet hospital, and she was told that his heart rate had dropped significantly and that if she had waited any longer his kidneys would have completely shut down leading to heart failure and it would have been too late. Stevie spent 3 ½ days in the hospital undergoing multiple procedures to flush out the blockage and restore his kidneys to proper function.

Stevie has been home now for almost two weeks. The vet informed Cassie that the first few weeks after hospitalization for a urethral obstruction are usually the most troublesome because relapses are most common during this period of time. This could mean major surgery in the future for Stevie.

The vet bills for the multiple procedures ended up being much higher than estimated due to the quantity of crystals, blood, sediment, and debris that was built up in his bladder. The good news is that this is a common and treatable medical issue among male cats. However, now that Stevie has had one major blockage, he has a higher chance of it coming back. His follow-up appointment with his regular veterinarian is this Friday (Jan 20, 2023) and all thoughts, prayers, and support would mean the world. He’s got a long road ahead of him, and without some financial help, Cassie will not be able to continue his treatment if/when this happens again.

Some background on Cassie and Stevie:

Cassie found Stevie in a gutter outside of her office on November 1, 2017. He was crying, covered in fleas, had one eye that was infected and unable to open and had a nasty upper respiratory infection. He wasn’t more than a month old and weighed less than a pound. Cassie spent that first month coming home on her lunch break to administer his medications and give him daily flea baths. After about two months he pulled through! He is her first baby and has been there for her through her own health issues, and the death of both her mother and grandmother who raised her. We say this to emphasize how much comfort and joy Stevie has brought her over the past 5 years.

Cassie is not one to ask for help unless absolutely required and this is one of those times due to the higher-than-anticipated costs for Stevie's hospital stay.
