Hi, my name is Gabby Cummings. Peter is a brown-gray short-haired Tabby cat and my registered emotional support animal who lives with me in my dorm at the University of La Verne. He helps me get through panic attacks, high-stress events, and depressive episodes. He is only 3 years old and the sweetest cat you will ever meet. He loves meeting new people and cuddling with anyone. I like to say that he is not only my emotional support animal, but an emotional support animal for everyone who comes in contact with him. He is my world and has gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life these past few years.
My mom and I adopted Peter from a rescue organization during my freshman year in college. He was 3 months old, kind of mangy and had ringworm, we'd later discover after he infected us all. I was going through a difficult period emotionally, and Peter was so sweet and affectionate, he was just what I needed. When I was later diagnosed with depression and anxiety, Peter was classified as an emotional support animal and allowed to live with me in my dorm. Then COVID hit, and Peter was my rock. I don't how I could have made it these last three years without him.
Last week I noticed Peter was having trouble breathing. Yesterday, I took him to a veterinarian who ran blood tests and did X-rays but was unable to diagnose his problem. The doctor was very concerned about his lungs, they had an unusual pattern, but the radiologist could not determine what was going on. Last night I noticed Peter's breathing getting worse so we rushed him to an emergency hospital that specializes in lung disorders. After numerous tests, they determined he is hemorrhaging blood into his lungs but they don't know where it is coming from. Peter is intensive care, breathing with the help of an oxygen cage while they try and diagnose his condition. My main concern right now is making sure Peter is getting the care that he needs to get better. Unfortunately, the cost is astronomical. We will be at around $12,000 by Tuesday for his care, while they keep him in the hospital on oxygen waiting for test results to come back. This does not include any other procedures that will need to be done. Both my mother and I have maxed out our credit cards. Peter has given so much to me that I can't turn my back on him now; he is my everything, he is my bestfriendThat is why I am asking for help just to get him through this phase so we can find out what is wrong. Please consider donating to my Go Fund Me. My goal is $15,000, anything helps <3
