Woodcot is a beautiful house in Salcombe South Devon, which has been home to elderly residents ever since it was GIVEN to charity by the then owner Miss Elizabeth Jennings. In 1969.
AGE UK plan to cash in for millions rather than honouring the legal; covenant put on by the donor which requires that it be run as a residential home for old people. A charity has come forward offering to run Woodcot as intended but Age Uk want to sell claiming they cant make a go of it, when in fact they have been running it at a loss for years.

Miss Jennings GAVE this house, her family home, to charity on condition that it would remain as a residential home for the elderly - in perpetuity.
Ever since then many elderly people have lived out their lives in the peace and tranquility of Woodcot. Just as Miss Jennings wanted.
However a dark cloud is looming…..Now Age Uk bosses want to sell Woodcot for millions of £££££ instead of passing it on to another charity.
Here's the thing: They never paid a penny for Woodcot. They got it for nothing. It came to them in 2009. From Help the Aged. Who were passed it from Plymouth Guild of Social Service; Who were passed it on by Voluntary and Christian Services. These charities didnt try and profit from their gift. They played it forward. Now Age Uk should do the same.
But Age Uk charity bosses want to cash in on Miss Jennings gift to make millions for themselves.
AGE UK bosses say that they can't afford to keep Woodcot up, but in truth they have been runnning it down for years. They have not re-let the flats when they became vacant and now they claim it is unviable. If they had they would have nearly £700,00.00
The local community is up in arms, the six remaining residents all in their 80’s are understandably anxious and uncertain about their future.
A petition with over 2,500 signatures on it is on https://chng.it/wZ5ZzG5Gc7
Age Uk never paid a penny for this property and want to sell it to the neighbour who is a property developer. Anew charity has come forward and offered to run it and keep the residents in their home. Age Uk must pass it on to them rather than sell it.
The covenant that is tied to the property title is the only document that preserves Woodcot as Miss Jennings intended.. The elderly residents are in a quandry and frankly this is beyond them, they need your help.
The local community, holiday makers and everyone who has visited Salcombe, and signed the petition is rightly concerned that Miss Jenning's gift to the town should be honoured and preserved in perpetuity. Please help by donating what you can, it is very gratefully recieved and every penny will be used to save Woodcot for charity as Miss Jennings wanted.
Can you help?
