Hi, my name is Gina, and I’m raising funds to help my family and I pay for my furbaby, Comet’s, medical expenses. Comet is a 5-year-old Siberian husky who is goofy, lovable, and stubborn as only huskies can be. Most importantly, he is my best friend and fur-child.

Comet quickly fell ill and was taken to the animal hospital on 4/19/24. He was admitted on 4/20/24. His x-rays didn’t show a bowel obstruction, but doctors couldn’t rule out a foreign body in his stomach. At this point, his quoted medical expenses was $4,244.

Later that afternoon, 4/20/24, the suspected diagnosis was pancreatitis due to “free fluid” in his abdomen.

On 4/21/24 6:30am - 9:15, Comet worsened overnight. He was given an NG (nasogastric) tube, ~8oz of fluid pulled from his stomach. The hospital started sepsis protocol and called for an emergency ultrasound. His doctor believed he had an acute and aggressive form of pancreatitis.

On 4/21/24 11am, I learned after the ultrasound that it was not pancreatitis, but rather a perforated or ruptured intestine, likely due to his arthritis medication that he took as needed. This rupture required immediate surgery, and I was verbally quoted $12,000-$15,000.

After talking with my family, we agreed to do the surgery. The itemized bill for surgery and post-op care in the ICU was quoted for $25,674 - $29,525.



Comet’s health insurance will reimburse $2,000. The rest of monies will be put on credit cards.

Since getting out of surgery on 4/21/24 5pm, Comet’s health has ebbed and flowed. The concern before and after surgery was sepsis. It is now ensuring that he doesn’t develop DIC - disseminated intravascular coagulation, which is a condition that can be fatal. Another new concern is organ failure as a test shows that he may have liver and/or gallbladder dysfunction.

Comet’s prognosis remains 50-50.
