My Dad Steve Kern is currently in the hospital and has been since July 31st. He woke up on the 31st and could not walk, had double vision, numbness in his leg and fingers, severe headache and back pain, could not talk well (barely understandable), could not eat or drink due to hard time swallowing and everything tasted like hairspray. They could not determine if it was his MS or the back surgery he needs to get. Brainard hospital transported him to the U of M to get the back surgery as that is what they thought it was. The medical specialist at the U were pretty confident it was not the case. So after tons of tests and MRIs they came to a conclusion that it is Guillain-Barré syndrome. He is currently on day 3 of meds out of 5. Since he started the treatment for Guillain-Barré syndrome he has noticed the most improvement since he has been there. He is doing physical therapy to learn to walk again, started eye drops to help cure the double vision, he will be doing a swallow test tomorrow to see what’s going on with that, and hopefully his eating restrictions are lifted tomorrow so he can eat normal food again. He is down 25lbs.

With the money I am looking to raise for my parents will help with their bills as my dad is not working during this time and neither is my mom because she does not drive and they live up north where there is no public transportation. PTO is running out. We were also told that it could take quite some time to be able to walk again and be back to work. (Up to a year)
