On the evening of June 24, 2020, the Paxson family was enjoying an evening at the Elk Rapids Dam Beach when their Brand St neighbors alerted them that their home was on fire.
The Elk Rapids Fire Department responded quickly, assisted by Milton and Torch Lake Township Fire Departments, and were able to contain the fire.
While the investigation is just beginning, the damage to the Paxson family home is devastating.
You may know their charming home on Brand St in Elk Rapids by its beautiful gardens in the front yard. Ryan, Erin, Arlo, and Ziggy are active members of our community — including participating in last summer's weekly Elk Rapids Norte Slow Roll, sharing vegetables and herbs from their gardens with community members, free of charge — and much more.
Arlo and Ziggy attend Lakeland Elementary School and have been members of the soccer program. Erin is a volunteer with the Maplehurst Natural Area, is completing the MSU Master Gardener Program, and has served as a substitute teacher with the Elk Rapids School District, warmly sharing her artistic talents with her students. Ryan brings joy to children and families far and wide as an innovative designer, including toys. An all-around awesome family that we are lucky to have in our little Elk Rapids community!
Many thoughtful friends, neighbors, and community members have asked about how best to help the Paxson family right now. So much is still unknown as they begin the process of rebuilding but we do know the damage to their home is extensive and this will be a long road for them.
We have opened this fundraiser to support the Paxsons as they navigate this truly challenging and uncertain time, and to provide an option for all those asking how they can help this sweet family right now.
Thank you in advance for your support!
