Help Give Savanna Safety, Independence & Hope — A Medical Service Dog

As Savanna’s family, asking for help is not easy. But when it comes to giving her every opportunity to live a safer, fuller, and more independent life, we will do everything we can.

For the past three years, Savanna has been battling uncontrolled epilepsy, and her life has changed in ways no child should have to experience.

Because of her seizures, Savanna has been unable to attend school like other children her age and is currently being homeschooled. While homeschooling allows her to continue her education, she has missed so much more than being inside a classroom — school activities, friendships, meeting new people, and many of the everyday experiences that help a young person grow and gain independence.

As her family, it is heartbreaking to watch epilepsy take so much away from her.

Savanna continues to face uncertainty in her medical journey. Surgery for an implant is pending while her medical team works to stabilize her seizures and manage her medications. We continue to pray and hope for progress.

In the meantime, we have another incredibly important goal: getting Savanna a professionally trained medical service dog.

This is not simply about getting Savanna a dog. This is a medical necessity and another layer of safety, support, and independence for her.

A properly trained service dog can provide assistance related to her seizure disorder, help her during vulnerable moments, provide comfort and support, and allow her to regain some of the confidence and independence epilepsy has taken from her.

Unfortunately, the cost of obtaining and professionally training the type of service dog Savanna needs is approximately $40,000.

We have reached out to multiple organizations and programs looking for assistance. Unfortunately, because I am a working mother, we have been denied or do not qualify for many of the programs that could otherwise help with these expenses.

I work because I have to provide for my family, maintain our home, carry insurance, and make sure Savanna has what she needs. Yet working also places us in the difficult position of earning too much to qualify for certain assistance programs while still being unable to afford a $40,000 medical service dog on our own.

That is why we are asking for help.

Every donation — whether it is $5, $10, $20, or more — brings Savanna one step closer to having a trained companion who can provide another layer of safety and help her regain some of the independence she has lost.

If you are unable to donate, sharing Savanna’s story is just as meaningful. One share may reach the person, organization, or community that can help us reach our goal.

Our hope is simple: to give Savanna more safety, more independence, and the opportunity to experience more of the life a young girl deserves.
